About El Medano Tenerife, Something for everyone.......... What you need to know about El Medano, Tenerife. The small town of El Medano is set beautiful surroundings and is an ideal place for a family rest. It has the largest natural beach in Tenerife which is two kilometres in length. Its white sand fills everyone with wonderment and its shallow waters are ideal for many water sports. El Médano is easily accessible by road from the Southern highway TF-1. It is located in the south of Tenerife, in Granadilla de Abona. It is famous for the 166-hectare protected area called the Red Mountain, a reddish sand volcanic crater that has been nearly flattened by sea erosion, with one half emerged and the other half submerged. Another protected area of 1 527 hectares is the Bare Mountain, a volcanic cone with a crater nearly one kilometre in diameter. It was formed thanks to successive explosions resulting from the violent vaporization of the sea waters. Beach lovers who enjoy the calm, shallow waters of this beach and a family-friendly atmosphere where locals and tourists from all over the world mix happily together. El Medano has a pleasant town square and the narrow streets can be strolled at leisure, where you can pop into one of the many bars or pavement cafes. There are 2 nature areas near to El Medano, around Montana Roja and Montana Pelada well worth the walk to take in the scenery and to enjoy the beautiful, peaceful surroundings. During the day if you just fancy lying on a beach and relaxing with the children keeping amused, then the beach in El Medano is the longest on the island. There are showers and facilities along the beach front, and the bars and restaurants in the resort are based here. This beach though is more famous for its water sports and is enjoyed by the keen windsurfers. The are also a fine selection of restaurants including specialist in local fresh fish, chinese, italian and french. There are a wide variety of excursions available, you've got Whale watching and Dolphin watching, fishing excursions, Jeep safaris, Mount Tiede Tours, Zoos, Gardens, Golf clubs and go-karting near by so you will never be stuck for anything to do. Hiring a car is one way to get to out and about or for the day exploring the island. There also is a bus service that can take you to the surrounding resorts if you cannot drive or do not want to hire a car.
